3 Fall Lawn-Care Secrets

Three fall lawn-care secrets

As the weather cools down and the leaves begin to change, you may notice that you need to make some adjustments to how you treat your lawn. Keep your lawn in top shape with these three lawn-care secrets.

  1. Adjust Your Mowing Height: Lower the height of your mower as it cools down outside. Cutting your lawn slightly shorter than you would in the warmer seasons will prevent your grass from matting underneath the leaves. Make sure you don’t cut your grass too short though or you may see an increase in weeds.
  2. Repair Dead Patches: Early fall is a great time to reseed those dead or thin patches. Seeding in the fall will reduce the amount of weeds and allow seedlings to become established before the stressful, hot weather conditions make a return.
  3. Apply a Top Dressing: Apply a thin layer of soil or compost to your turf. Doing so improves growing conditions, smooths bumps in your lawn, and lessens the need for fertilizer.
