Now that spring is here, it is time to get out the power equipment that has been hibernating all winter. It is the time of year to start getting the yard ready and looking its best. Since you will be using this equipment more frequently over the next few months, here are some maintenance tips to keep your outdoor power equipment in top shape.
Lawnmower
- Make sure air and fuel filters are clean. Replace if needed.
- Change oil every 50 hours of use or once a season whichever comes first.
- Top unit off with fresh fuel (don’t store your fuel for over 30 days).
- Check blades for any damage and replace them if there are any dents or bends. If you notice the grass is being torn rather than cut, the blades need to be sharpened or replaced.
- Look underneath deck and clean out any clumps of grass.
- Grease all fittings.
- Check tire pressure and add air as needed.
String Trimmer
- Change the fuel filter once per season.
- Replace spark plug
- Check air filter and replace if needed
- Replace the string as needed.
- Lubricate gearhead if applicable.
Chainsaw
- Check for loose bolts and screws before and after each use.
- Check air filter and replace if needed.
- Change the fuel filter once per season.
- Replace Spark plug.
- Check chain for dullness and damage, sharpen or replace if needed.
- Be sure to use the proper gas and oil mixture that is no older than 30 days.
- Top off bar oil
