Nothing in summer heat is as important as adequate cooling. Clean filters help your air conditioning (and heating in the winter) run as effeciently as possible. Most filters are very easy to change, and having a clean filter will let your system run as economically as possible. Hudson's Hardware has a broad selection of furnace and air conditioning filters. We also have the proper extension cords to handle your window air conditioner's electrical loads.

If your outdoor power equipment is hard to start it could be to your advantage to have it serviced. Problems with lubricants or gas/oil mixtures can greatly reduce the life of your mower, weed or hedge trimmer or chain saw. It's always important the engine be in proper tune and have a clean, properly set spark plug for optimum performance.

Nothing cuts grass better than a sharp, balanced mower blade. No matter how well your mower's engine is running, you can still damage your lawn if the mower's blades are dull. Also, if the blade has been damaged by hitting objects like rocks, stumps or concrete, the blade could become out of balance and seriously damage the engine bearings. We stock a variety of the most popular blades for regular mowing and mulching.

The plain fact is outdoor power equipment requires specific lubricants for each engine or machine. Using improper viscosity oil can damage bearings. Mixing gas/oil incorrectly for "2-cycle" engines can lead to engine failure or spark plug fouling. We can help you stock a reasonable supply of the proper lubricants for your equipment so you can top the reservior off as needed, because we carry a broad spectrum of the highest quality natural and synthetic lubricants. Always remember to check the oil level of 4-cycle equipment before starting the engine.

One of Murphy's Laws dictates that if a piece of outdoor power equipment can fail, it will do so at the least convenient time possible. If you are capable of doing your own light maintenance, you might consider keeping a spare set of blades or belts handy at your house. Having spare parts on hand reduces down time and will allow projects to be finished in a more orderly manner than fetching supplies in the middle of a mow.

Cold weather brings ice more frequently than snow to North Carolina. Hudson's Hardware carries ice melting compounds in that season, and various hand tools suitable for chipping ice. A good snow shovel is valuable for many reasons; they're great for moving mulch, potting mix/loose topsoil, yard debris, gravel and even snow. You may have a kerosene-fired or propane-fired heater for cold season emergencies or other auziliary heating. If you don't have one, you can buy one from Hudson's.
